HE LOST FEELING FROM THE CHEST DOWN. WCCO’S KATE RADDATZ SAT DOWN AND SPOKE TO HIM ABOUT HIS RECOVERY AND ADD JUSTING TO A NEW NORMAL. TINGLING INSIDE. Reporter: MATT OLSEN REMEMBERS FALLING ON THE ICE AND TRYING TO GET UP. FIRST THING I WAS TRYING TO DO IS MOVE AND I KNEW I COULDN’T MOVE. HE WAS PARALYZED FROM THE CHEST DOWN. AFTER AN IMMEDIATE SURGERY, HE COULDN’T SPEAK FOR 7 WEEKS. HIS FAMILY STAYED BY YOUR SIDE. IT WAS LIKE YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE. I WANTED TO COMFORT HIM AND LET HIM KNOW THAT I WAS THERE. SINCE THEN HE STAYED AT THE MAYO CLINIC IN GOLDEN VALLEY. THE CHICAGO COUGARS, A JUNIOR LEAGUE TEAM HE STATED THE TASKS TAKE EVERY BIT OF HIS STRENGTH. SOME DAYS SO HEAVY ON THERAPIES, LIKE THREE HOURS OF THERAPY A DAY, SO THAT CAN REALLY WIPE YOU OUT. HE HAS RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD INCLUDING THE MINNESOTA WILD AND ST. MARGARET HOCKEY PLAYER PARALYZED IN 2011. PEOPLE CAN REALLY RALLY AROUND SOMEONE OR A FAMILY TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT. MATT SAID THERE ARE GOOD AND BAD DAYS TO LIFE IN A WHEELCHAIR.
