PARK EMPLOYEES ARE WARNING VISITORS. THANKS VERY MUCH. A FORMER JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL STAR ATHLETE GETTING A LOT OF SUPPORT FROM HIS HIGH SCHOOL AND THE COMMUNITY AFTER HE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED DURING THE NATIONAL RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIPS. CBS13’S KELLY RYAN WENT TO JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL TODAY WHERE A COMMUNITY IS NOW BANDING TOGETHER FOR HIS RECOVERY. STRONG SUPPORT COMING IN QUICKLY FOR ROBERT WHO MANY SAY IS NOT JUST A TOP NOTCH ATHLETE ON THE FIELD, BUT A FIRST RATE GUY OFF THE FIELD AS WELL. I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE FROM SOME OF MY FRIENDS. KNOWING THE CHARACTER ROBERT HAS, IT TUGGED ON THE HEART STRINGS DEFINITELY. Reporter: THEY’RE STILL IN SHOCK OVER ROBERT PAYLOR’S INJURY LAST SATURDAY. HE WAS INJURED AS HE PLAYED ON THE CAL RUGBY TEAM. HIS INJURY HAS REPORTEDLY LEFT HIM PARALYZED BELOW THE CHEST. WHILE HIS CAL TEAMMATES VISITED HIM AT THE HOSPITAL, HIS FORMER HIGH SCHOOL TEAMMATES WERE THINKING OF HIM TOO. HE WAS ALWAYS SMILING WHENEVER HE PLAYED. HE WAS JUST A GENUINELY NICE GUY. THEY SAY HE HAD A REPUTATION HERE AS AN ALL-AROUND NICE GUY AND MENTOR. WHEN I PLAYED WITH HIM, HE WOULD HELP ME AFTER PRACTICE. JUST BE THERE FOR ME. Reporter: THEY DON’T DOUBT HE’LL STAY STRONG FOLLOWING HIS INJURY. IT WAS REALLY HARD TO SEE AND HEAR ABOUT, BUT ROBERT IS THE KIND OF GUY THAT JUST WORKS THROUGH EVERYTHING. SO HE’LL GET THROUGH IT. Reporter: HIS FORMER COACH SAYS IT’S MORE THAN HIS SIZE AT 6’5″ AND 250 POUNDS THAT MAKES HIM A STAND-OUT. VERY GOOD YOUNG MAN OF FAITH. HE BELIEVES IN HIS FAITH A LOT. I’M SURE THAT WILL HELP HIM AND HIS FAMILY GET THROUGH IT AND ANYTHING WE CAN DO, WE’LL SUPPORT HIM IN ANY WAY WE CAN. HIM SEEING US MIGHT HELP HIM OUT A LITTLE BIT. WE KNOWS HE HAS A LOT OF SUPPORT. Reporter: BOTH COACH AND FORMER TEAMMATES WANTED HIM TO MAKE SURE HE KNEW THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT AS THEY JOKED AROUND SHOUTING THEIR FAMILIAR SHOUT-OUT. A GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN HAS RAISED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN JUST ONE DAY AND THERE WILL BE A MASS HERE FOR THE RECOVERY. EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY, FORMER TEAMMATES ARE WORKING. 8:30 FRIDAY MORNING. INCREDIBLE GROUP OF YOUNG MEN. THE DEAN AND CHRISTOPHER REEVE FOUNDATION ESTIMATES SOMEONE WITH INJURIES LIKE ROBERT’S COULD HAVE EXPENSES IN UPWARDS
