Canadians and Music fans everywhere are mourning
the death of Tragically Hip front man Gord Downie, after a battle with terminal brain
cancer. While many looked at Downie as a musician,
hockey fans also thought of him as “one of us”. All you had to do was listen to The Tragically
Hip’s songs and it was evident that Downie loved his hockey. Fifty Mission Cap: Was about Bill Barilko,
the Maple Leafs player who scored a Stanley Cup-winning goal for the team in 1951…but
disappeared in the months following the win. And was later fopund after and airplane crash Fireworks referenced Paul Henderson’s historic
winning goal in the 1972 Summit Series against the Russians. And “Heaven Is A Better Place Today,” was
dedicated to Dan Snyder, the Atlanta Thrasher who was killed in a car accident. But it went beyond the Music…. Downie was a die-hard Bruins fan. He wore a Bruins sweater in the “courage”
video, was a staple at hockey games, and was sometimes accompanied by hockey royalty His love of the Bruins shouldn’t be too
much of a surprise, seeing as former Bruins Coach and GM Harry Sinden was his Godfather. When it came time to find a spiritual guide or advisor for me Which is what a Godfather is supposed to be. They asked harry and Elanor if they would be Godparents to me and my brother Pat. I think he has done very well at the spiritual guidance The
outpouring on social media shows the impact Downie had on the hockey world and how much
he will be missed. Gord Downie: Canadian…musician….hockey
fan.
