hello and welcome to the BCdesign Channel today I’m going to be making a better push stick to used with smaller pieces on the table saw, in my last video I was making some candle holders some new YouTuber his name is Paul Jackman he has a channel called Jack man works I’m gonna put a link to his channel down below I think he’d appreciate a subscribe from you guys. what he said to me was that as I was pushing the pieces through the saw like this, when I get to this point here where I’ve passed the front of the saw and I’m just going past the back piece of the saw there’s a danger that this piece can flip up out of the saw and get launched across the room where it will embed in your own genitals or someone else’s face which is a bad bad thing so I’m gonna take his advice and make a new push stick that puts pressure all along the top of the piece as I’m pushing it through the saw now lets clear this bench and get to work whoops okay so this is going to be a super simple design its sole purpose is to stop fingers genitalia or heads from being removed in the workshop because that’s the last thing we want to happen so I just made a 300 mil long line from side to side I’m gonna put a mark down here then im just going to follow along that line across to the other point and just see if it’s 41 and a half cm as well and it is so I’m just gonna draw straight across from this point across to this one I’m just going to use a straight edge so now have the basic shape which is a triangle I’m gonna drill a hole here and here and just make a handle or I might do it the whole way across actually because then whenever I want I can just flip it over and make the other side usable as the push stick as well so I marked a second line inside the triangle that I’d already drawn 10 mil in I’m gonna do the same on this side and this part here I’ll mark around here on both sides and I cut this section out so this is your stop at the back of the push block to grip onto the pieces of wood you’re pushing through the saw that’s four holes drilled when I’m finished this I might beef up the hand a little bit because it’s very close to the edge so we just extend that line out by a centimeter or so so when I go to cut it with the jigsaw you I just have to cut in there I’ll have to straight line the other side I’ll finish with the jigsaw that’s the push stick finished you could round over the edges of the handle if you wanted but I don’t feel it needs it it’s gonna get cut on the saw anyway eventually so it’s pretty much disposable it’s just a quick way to make one I finished off the push stick with a coat of water-based lacquer and then I added this little cut in at the front that Paul Jackman put on his push stick in the saw handled push stick video he made it just helps you push a little bit away from the table sawblade so it’s a nice little addition to the stick
