Hi everyone! I get asked very often how I use hair sticks to hold up my hair. In this video I’ll show you a technique that will help you secure your hair with a stick and a few other ways to use hair sticks in your updos. If you want your stick to hold up your hair, simply sliding it in will not do. You need to move your stick as if you were sewing a basic stitch with a needle, but instead of fabric you’ll want to scoop up some of the hair from your scalp. That way your updo will be fixed to the back of your head. Push the stick somewhere around the base of the bun on one side. Make sure you pick up some hair of the bun while doing so. Move it downward, scoop up some scalp hair and then go back up. As you can see, this is very secure and your bun will not loosen! You can make it even more secure by sliding the stick underneath your hair elastic and of course you can choose how you want to position your hair stick! You can also use a hair stick to partially secure your hair by wrapping it around the stick, like when you do this Chinese bun. This already keeps it pretty secure, but to make sure your ends don’t loosen after a while, you should still secure those with some hair pins. Some updos cannot be held up by a single hair stick. In that case, use the same technique as I showed you in the beginning, but do this on two sides of the updo. If you also cross them, that’ll make it even more secure! When you only need one stick to hold your hair up, but you like the way it looks to have two in your hair you can secure your updo with just one of the sticks and then slide the other one in, any way you want, as decoration. Of course, it’s also possible to secure your updo with hair pins for example and then just use a hair stick as decoration. I hope this video was helpful if you’re new to using hair sticks.
