He’s been likened to rugby great
Christian Cullen, and now Rotorua teen, Isaac Te Aute, is set to be schooled by the man
who made the likes of Cullen, Messam and even Lomu
household names. After leading the Rotorua Boys High
1st XV rugby team to win the national secondary
school’s title on the weekend, the Te Arawa and Tuhoe prodigy
could be on his way to Rio next year with a little guidance
from the godfather of rugby. He has a sixth sense when it comes to scouting rugby
superstars such as Christian Cullen, Jonah Lomu and Liam Messam. And Sir Gordon Tietjens has had his eyes on this
Te Arawa-Tuhoe boy all year. But the world has only just heard of this
Rotorua Boys rugby team captain. Here he is breaking through
the Scots College defence line in the second half
of their final match. Rotorua Boys came out on top in the
secondary school rugby tournament. This will be his second appearance
in the NZ Sevens side, a sign perhaps of a black jersey
on the horizon. He’ll be put to the test
this Saturday in Rotorua when they face Australia. But it’s clear to see that he’s not chasing
a career in television… Isaac Te Aute, Te Karere. …he’s actually after a spot
in the Rio Olympics instead. Oriini Tipene-Leach, Te Karere.
