– [Rob Blake] My job here
is to build a contender, and whether that be in the
present or in the future, every decision must be made
with that vision in mind. – The future’s a pretty vague word. I think you get scared
sometimes when you hear the word future ’cause you’re
thinkin’ so far down the road. The future, to me, is tomorrow. What are we doin’ tomorrow? – We weren’t stable last year. It was up and down,
players were in and out, so our main focus this
season is to be stable and to be a bounded group of individuals. – There is nothing that the
players go without here. The Kings organization from top to bottom, they give the players
everything they possibly can require to have success. (dramatic music) It’s not that easy though. It’s about putting it all together and becoming a good player
and becoming a good team. It doesn’t matter if
you’re a coach, a manager, even an owner, it’s tough when the plan isn’t real clear and concise. And when I met with this group, there’s a very clear, concise plan. – Now, the vision is to build a contender. Here’s a look at the new
players we have scheduled to make pro debuts with
the Kings this year. – [Announcer] Anderson-Dolan,
he comes to the net, fires a shot, shelves it and scores. – Comes out to the blue line, pivots, comes strong, fires a shot, and scores! – And Clague brings his way in, Clague and shoots scores! Kale Clague snaps it home. – Kupari (speaks in foreign language) – [Announcer] Dishes off, here’s Grant, back to Durzi, shot, scores! – Anderson at the point,
hesitates, fires and scores! (horn blows) Mikey Anderson, the Captain. Toffoli with a little speed, driving wide, feeds it out in front! (horn blows) (inspirational music) – (McLellan) Our job is to
create new memories for you and start to look to the future. To get through a marathon, it takes a lot of those intangibles. It takes heart. It takes commitment. It takes sweat, and blood and tears. I don’t know if the Kings,
when they won their cup, if they were the most talented team. But they had those intangibles. They ran the marathon. Do some of these players
want to run it again? And there’s no shortcuts. You can’t go from one to
fourteen to twenty-two and almost be done. You have to run every mile. And the future right now is getting them to the starting line. There will be some miserable nights. There will be some really good nights too. And it’ll take a lot of
work, but we’re prepared to do it, and we will get it done.

Interesting how many players are being expected to make their debut this year. I wonder how you’ll be able to slot them all in with the core that’s in place right now.

Mikey A. and Tobias…those look like some unbelievably great picks on the backend; both absolute steals in the draft. The blue line will be good.

Kings fans really need to start to be realistic and start to look to the future (part of the point of this whole video). Of course, we all WANT to see the team win NOW… but sometimes that's not what's best for the FUTURE of the organization. Would you rather suck it up and have a couple of bad years, then go back to being REALLY good for a while (competing for cups good), or would you rather the team struggle for YEARS (consistently around 12th – 27th in the NHL standings)? Look at Toronto… They had some horrible years, now they have a ton of amazing young players and they've made some moves and are a cup contender.

Blake and Luc have a plan, and they're executing it. They're building the next generation of Kings through the draft. They're doing their best to trade away aging vets while also making sure they get a decent return for those players (Muzzin trade PERFECT example). These things take time and we need to be patient. That said, 3 years ago, the Kings essentially didn't have a prospect pool. Now, thanks to EXCELLENT drafting the past 2-3 years, they have a top 5 prospect pool in the NHL. That's INCREDIBLE progress. The Kings are probably just one more tank year away from being in an amazing position for the future. Trust the process. Bottom 5 in the standings again this year, make some trades to shed some veteran contracts in return for future assets, then start competing again in 2020/21. GKG!!

"Here's a look at the new players we have scheduled to make pro debuts with the Kings this year…"

    JARET ANDERSON-DOLAN: Assigned to Ontario
    KALE CLAGUE: Assigned to Ontario
    RASMUS KUPARI: Assigned to Ontario
    SEAN DURZI: Assigned to Ontario
    MIKEY ANDERSON: Assigned to Ontario
    BLAKE LIZOTTE: Assigned to Ontario

Cliché player montages with smoke, shadows and lame lighting married with hollow sound bites from Rob and Todd McLellan (WHO SHOULD HAVE NVER BEEN HIRED AS COACH AFTER WHAT WE DID TO HIM IN 2014) all rings very hollow, and I seriously doubt the Kings have a plan besides "go out there and win every night." This is Rob's team now, like it or not, and I think he's wayyyy over his head in this role and should hopefully, be shown the door by the end of the season.

We need a GM with passion, like Ron Hextall!
